We've developed a platform for measuring plant health and photosynthesis called Photosynq (www.photosynq.org). We're looking for beta testers who are plant breeders, farmers, citizen scientists and plant scientists. The project is completely open source (software, hardware, and data). Cassavabase may be a great place to use the device to identify traits related to photosynthesis.

Do you think this is a good application? If there's anyone interested in taking part, we'll be doing a beta test in the next 4 months and we'd love to get folks involved. The link is http://photosynq.org/beta-test-application/ .

Thanks and hope to hear more.

Greg

I, A.V.V. Koundinya, am working as a scientist in ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, Trivandrum. I want to work on drought tolearnce in cassava (Manihot esculenta). I want you clarify some doubts and provide suggestions.

I downloaded EST (m RNA sequences) unique to the dehydration stress in cassava. I could not find any SSR regions in these sequences to use them as ESSR markers. Is it necessary to have sequence repeats to use them as markers? or can we use them directly without sequence repeats? Please help.

Thanking you,
I am very much interested in testing the Beta version if you wouldn't mind Greg.

Working principle
This cassava planter is equipped with high capacity and needs match with 90-110HP tractor. Two users sit on the chair to pick cassava into hole when the machine begins to work. Cassava is cut into lump through sharp blade and then drop in soil.
A number of cassava breeders are in the search of an electronic device (preferably a phone) that offer a good compromise between cost and operability (screen resolution, battery autonomy, etc...) for digital data collection (with the Fieldbook app for example).
The Motog5 is often cited as a good one but its price is on getting higher.

Any experience with other phone or handheld devices to share?
